This was the beginning stages after my sketch was transffered to the watercolor paper an di started creating the blood orange. The sketch was a bit larger than the originala nd i added more depth by layering the fruit instead of having each be a stand alone.
I started the kiwi using a very thin brush to paint in the stripes of color. I also made my own shades of greens greys and browns to match the natural tones that were gradually darker throughout the fruit.
With the fruit mostly done, I added a light brown wash for table and a light blue wash for a background. Because of the vibrancy of the fruit, I didn't want to overpower there coloring with a dark or vibrant background.

This project was naturally very intimidating due to the fact tat the final product was supposed to be photo realistic. I'm really glad we tackled this project because it helped me develop some technique with watercolor, but also, it showed me that photo realistic doesn't mean exact, and as long as you just commit to a project, it will come out how you want.
